Organized by the CSU Entertainment Alliance along with the Department of Cinema and Television Arts and sponsored by Starz #TakeTheLead initiative, the event titled "Harmony in Diversity: Celebrating Black Voices in Film and Television Scores" unfolded on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, within Manzanita Hall.
Musical Insights and Advice

During the panel discussion, she highlighted the significance behind each song and the readiness to adapt and change throughout a music career.

Kovas and Stinson emphasized the pivotal role of storytelling in connecting with audiences and fueling one's creative fire. Kovas, credited with scoring "The Crossover" and "On My Block," explained his strategy for maintaining a positive outlook, especially viewing setbacks not as failures but as valuable feedback.
Kovas also discussed the lasting impact of movie music, citing memorable scores from classics such as "Jaws," "Psycho," and "Star Wars," and encouraged aspiring creators to focus on this element to magnify their narratives.
Wilson, now at Netflix, shared a distinct narrative, having made a shift from finance to music. He fell for music after moving to Los Angeles and persistently followed his passion despite initial setbacks. His advice for dealing with rejection involved staying genuine and true to oneself.
Networking and Opportunities for Students
Following the panel session, a reception allowed students to engage in networking, pose further inquiries to panelists, and connect with fellow creative minds. This part of the event proved invaluable for those seeking advice and for establishing industry connections.
Students departed the event equipped with valuable insights, tips, and newfound professional contacts, all of which are pivotal for their upcoming careers in the entertainment industry.
