Published February 6, 2024

This week, the University of Oklahoma (OU) is set to host two celebrated international musicians as part of its distinguished Resonance Series. This series aims at offering music enthusiasts, students, and the broader community a peek into the dynamic worlds of music experts from across the globe.

Globetrotting Duo to Share their Musical Journey

David Cook and Shayna Steele, a husband-wife team of musicians, will be gracing the OU School of Music with their presence. They are scheduled to participate in a variety of events, including performances and talks designed to provide a rich learning experience.

As Taylor Swift's pianist and musical director for over a decade, David Cook has earned acclaim in the entertainment industry, securing nominations and winning prestigious awards including Grammys and Emmys. He has a history of collaboration with a number of celebrated artists and bands. Outside his performing career, Cook contributes to the education of aspiring musicians as an adjunct professor.

Shayna Steele's voice has not only headlined on the Broadway stage but also climbed the charts in collaboration with Moby. Her multifaceted career includes appearances and performances in award-winning shows and recordings with several iconic artists. Steele's career is a testament to her versatile talent.

Events Open to All

The couple's itinerary at OU is packed with various activities. It includes discussions, a discourse followed by a question-answer session, and a concluding concert, all taking place at the university's Catlett Music Center, complemented by a panel presentation at a local public library.

The Resonance Series, established during the difficult times of 2020, was adapted for an online audience to facilitate continued learning and engagement in the music industry. The series has featured numerous professionals including drummers and bassists who've worked with top-notch artists. This initiative has been lauded for providing rare educational opportunities and exposure.

Thanks to the continuous support from university leadership and collaborators such as the Oklahoma Film + Music Office, the series stands as an outstanding educational platform. Events are complimentary to attend by all interested parties, although certain events may request prior registration.
