The Cal Poly Humboldt Department of Dance, Music, and Theatre is bringing a dynamic range of musical performances to early December audiences. Featuring an impressive lineup of jazz combos, percussion ensembles, and various musical groups, the university's Fulkerson Recital Hall will become a hub for music enthusiasts.
Jazz Combos Take the Stage
On Friday, December 1st, at 8 p.m., three jazz combos will perform a diverse set of pieces. The King’s Milk Quartet, The Groovy Goobers, and Lil Swaqq are on the bill, ready to present their unique sounds to the audience. Ticket details are made simple with general admission priced at $10, a reduced rate of $5 for children, and complimentary access for students with a Cal Poly Humboldt ID.
Each jazz ensemble has its own signature style and selection of music. Audiences will hear a varied repertoire ranging from Brandee Younger's "Respected Destroyer" to "There Will Never Be Another You" by Harry Warren and Mack Gordon.
Percussive Rhythms and World Beats
The following night, December 2nd, also at 8 p.m., the stage will be filled with rhythm as the Cal Poly Humboldt Percussion Ensemble and the World Percussion Group perform. The eclectic performances, under the direction of Howard Kaufman and Eugene Novotney, will feature contemporary music for percussion, Afro-Cuban Bantú rhythms, and Caribbean steel drum sounds. Both traditional and premiere pieces will be showcased, promising an explorative journey through percussion.
Highlighting the program are works that pay tribute to composers like Lou Harrison, as well as festive dance music from the Caribbean which is sure to get the crowd moving to its vibrant beats. Admission follows the same pricing as the jazz concert and includes the option to access a free live-stream.
Cultural Fusions with Vocal and Mariachi Performances
On December 3rd, at 2 p.m., a vocal explosion takes place with the Mad River Transit Singers and Mariachi de Humboldt joining forces for "Unchain My Heart!/Descadenando mi Corazón!", blending jazz standards with Mariachi melodies. The concert serves as a vibrant homage to numerous music genres and is slated to engage attendees in an eclectic auditory experience.
Opera Workshop Presents Eclectic Musical Evening
