Musical ‘Dinosaur is Alive!’ Delights Military Families at National Museum in Yongsan

Published February 7, 2024

The National Museum in Yongsan, Seoul, became a prehistoric playground for military families, inviting them to a special performance of the internationally acclaimed musical, ‘Dinosaur is Alive!’. The event, which took place on January 31, 2024, was specifically aimed at showing appreciation to military service members and their families for their service in Korea and introduced them to the rich Korean musical culture. This thoughtful musical invitation was part of a cultural promotion endeavor to celebrate the strong ROK-US alliance and bolster community relations between South Korea and the United States.

A Roaring Good Time for Military Families

The musical event featured elaborate dinosaur costumes, lifelike movements, and captivating songs that left the audience spellbound, both adults and children alike. It was not only an opportunity for military families to experience a slice of Korean entertainment but also served to enhance their quality of life while stationed abroad. Theatre Yong's initiative was one of the 106 community relations events organized by USAG Yongsan-Casey in 2023, all aiming to nurture a better living experience for Area I and II military communities in foreign territory.

Cultural Exchange Through Dinosaur Encounters

The ‘Dinosaur is Alive!’ musical concert also played an important role in cultural exchange, as it provided a platform for young soldiers and their families to connect with the Korean community through the universal language of music and performance. The interactive event signified more than just entertainment; it was a symbolic gathering to honor the enduring friendship and alliance between the Republic of Korea and the United States. Organizers expressed hope that such events would continue to fortify the bonds between the two nations' military and civilian populations.
