Nonesuch Records Marks 60 Years with Anniversary Celebrations and Special Releases in 2024

Published January 19, 2024

In 2024, the music industry will witness the 60th anniversary of the esteemed Nonesuch Records, an institution in the world of music since its inception in 1964.

60 Years of Musical Heritage

Established in New York City by Jac Holzman, founder of Elektra Records, as a classical music label, Nonesuch Records has since diversified over the decades, accruing an impressive roster of artists across various genres. These artists have garnered numerous accolades, including Grammy Awards and Pulitzers, across a spectrum from Alternative to World Music.

Celebratory Events and Reissues Planned

The record label has an array of festivities planned to commemorate the milestone. A striking feature of the celebration is a series of special events at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee, where fifteen Nonesuch artists will perform. In addition, exclusive vinyl reissues are being prepared in collaboration with Vinyl Me, Please, alongside other anniversary-themed activities such as a dedicated podcast, artist exhibitions, merchandise, sales, and a new video series.

Leadership Through the Years

Nonesuch's stability is reflected in its leadership, which has seen only three individuals at the helm over six decades. Since 2016, David Bither has led the label with a forward-looking approach while celebrating past achievements.

The Big Ears Festival Line-Up

The Big Ears Festival will host a line-up that showcases both former and current Nonesuch talents, enhancing the festival's reputation for creativity and musical exploration.

The Legacy in Vinyl

High-quality reissues from the label's catalog are on the horizon, with records pressed at Vinyl Me, Please's pressing plant and fine-tuning by industry experts, ensuring top-notch audio fidelity for vinyl enthusiasts.

Digital Commemoration and Merchandise

Nonesuch also delves into the digital realm with curated tracks on streaming platforms, and their new video series 'Nonesuch Selects' allows artists to share selections from the label's extensive library. Fans can also look forward to limited-edition merchandise and online sale events.
