Stourbridge's Own Ned's Atomic Dustbin Returns for One Heart One Way Event

Published February 13, 2024

Jonn Penney, the frontman of the renowned indie band Ned's Atomic Dustbin, is set to grace the stage at Stourbridge Town Hall. The performance is scheduled for Saturday, May 25 and is part of the town's One Heart One Way musical extravaganza. This much-anticipated event marks a homecoming for the band, celebrated for their contribution to the indie music scene, particularly in their hometown.

A Nostalgic Homecoming

Fittingly, the concert will take place just a stone’s throw from the Mitre pub, a venerable institution in Stourbridge’s music history. The pub is famed as the venue where Ned's Atomic Dustbin played their very first show. It was a hub for them and other indie greats like The Wonderstuff and Pop Will Eat Itself back in the late '80s to '90s, giving birth to the so-called 'Stourbridge scene.'

A Call to Support Live Music

In a heartfelt video, Penney, filmed at Record Culture, a local independent record shop, calls on music fans to secure their tickets promptly. "It's going to be a great day, one which aims to wake Stourbridge up and we are really looking forward to it so I would encourage you to get your tickets from here or the town hall as soon as you can," he says, communicating his excitement for the upcoming gig.

The previous year saw Ned’s Atomic Dustbin draw packed crowds to the town hall, with eager fans from all over the globe coming to witness the band perform live. With the band's strong following, the upcoming May performance is also expected to quickly sell out.

Celebrating New Music

Adding to the day's festivities, Claptrap—an independent music venue in Stourbridge—will be presenting fresh talent. The venue will take over the Wollaston Studio at the town hall from 5pm to 9pm, showcasing new and promising acts in the indie music scene.

For those looking to experience this celebration of Stourbridge's musical talent, tickets for Ned’s Atomic Dustbin can be booked online, called in via the box office, or purchased in person at Record Culture in Market Street.
