Published February 24, 2024

The esteemed San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra is set to enchant audiences with their upcoming performance titled 'Rhapsody in Blue at 100'. The concert, scheduled for March 2 with shows at 3 pm and 7:30 pm, will take place in the auditorium at San Bernardino Valley College. The centerpiece of the concert is none other than George Gershwin's masterpiece, 'Rhapsody in Blue', which will soon mark its 100th anniversary in 2024.

Celebrating Gershwin's Legacy

Music director and conductor Anthony Parnther expressed his excitement about featuring the new Gershwin Critical Edition, an edited version true to Gershwin's original vision. 'Rhapsody in Blue' uniquely combines classical elements with jazz, and the concert intends to deliver an accurate experience of Gershwin's work. The orchestra has invited Dr. David Kaplan, a well-acclaimed pianist, to lead the performance which also highlights other remarkable artists.

A Tribute to Iconic Artists

Beyond Gershwin, the concert will honor legends like Tina Turner, Carole King, Aretha Franklin, and Simon and Garfunkel alongside compositions by William Grant Still, Valerie Coleman, and Abraham Alexander. Adding to the grandeur, vocalists Maiya Sykes and Cedric Berry will lend their formidable voices to the evening. Sykes is known for her classical training and appearances on ‘The Voice’ and with Postmodern Jukebox, while Berry’s versatile range covers opera to gospel, having performed with numerous prestigious groups and festivals.
