All Female Front Showcases New Talents at the Sinclair

Published January 18, 2024

Following their highly praised premiere performance in Newport, the All Female Front ensemble is taking the stage once more, this time at the Sinclair on January 20th. In a celebration of budding female artists, the show will spotlight a selection of promising acts hailing from New England and places further afield.

Julie Rhodes: A Soulful Force

First up is Boston native Julie Rhodes, whose soulful voice seems as if it has been transplanted from the bygone eras of the soul-rich Deep South. Her song "Hurricane" could easily stand among the classics of Otis Redding or Gregg Allman, backed by a band that feels plucked out of an Alabama swamp from decades ago.

Mary-Elaine Jenkins: Hypnotic Twang

Brooklyn's own Mary-Elaine Jenkins brings her South Carolina heritage into play with "The Americans." The track starts with a gentle, bluesy rhythm and unfolds into a hauntingly powerful number that features Jenkins's uniquely raspy vocals. The emotional weight of her delivery, coupled with the song's intimate lyrics, promises to leave a lasting impression on the listener.

The Wolff Sisters: Fusion of Sounds

The Wolff Sisters, hailing from Boston, skillfully blend elements of New England folk, Southern rock, and Californian country vibes. Their song "Where I Got Lost" from their latest album "Dark River" introduces Celtic influences and New Orleans styles into their already diverse musical palette.

The Devil's Twins: Punk with a Punch

Jeremiah John Louf and Nicole Marie Coogan of The Devil's Twins deliver "Anger Room," a track that perfectly encapsulates garage punk's energy with a hint of Southern soul. New additions saxophonist Aitan Ben-Joseph and trumpet player Eric Ortiz breathe new life into the band's dynamic sound.

Mary McAvoy: Pop Meets Country

Mary McAvoy's single "Another Life" is a spacious fusion of modern country, pop sensibility, and refined songwriting. The track showcases McAvoy's versatility and hints at her expanding repertoire of heartfelt ballads and polished pop creations.
