Carnival Magic Ship Hosting ShipRocked Festival Hits Jamaican Pier

Published February 12, 2024

A sailing music festival featuring bands like Killswitch Engage and Beartooth experienced a mishap last week when the cruise ship, Carnival Magic, struck a pier in Jamaica. The festival cruise had embarked from Miami and encountered rough seas with strong winds.

Upon arrival at Ocho Rios, Jamaica on Monday, February 5, the vessel faced further challenges leading to a collision the next day. A portion of the pier gave way under stress, causing the Carnival Magic to crash into the dock structure.

No Injuries Reported Despite Ship Damage

According to Carnival Cruises, the collision did not result in any injuries, and the ship's facilities continued to function properly. Nevertheless, there was notable damage inflicted on the cruise ship.

Following the incident, passengers had to dock at an alternative pier and reportedly spent around 12 hours waiting in a field without adequate shelter or amenities during a rainy period, as described by a passenger, Adam Muddleton.

Impact on ShipRocked Festival

The accident occurred during the ShipRocked Festival, which had to adapt to the unforeseen circumstances. Prior to the event, Code Orange, another band scheduled for the festival, had to cancel their tour, including their appearance on the cruise, due to health issues faced by their guitarist, Dom Landolina.

In a related incident, another cruise festival, the Headbangers Boat hosted by Lamb of God, experienced a serious situation when an attendee went overboard last November. Despite extensive search efforts, the individual was not recovered.
