Hungarian Musicians to Perform at Christ Episcopal Church

Renowned Hungarian organist Sándor Balatoni, along with the talented Hungarian-American violinist Philip Ficsor, will grace the Christ Episcopal Church on April 7th for an exceptional concert. This anticipated event is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at the church’s location on H and 15th streets in Eureka.

A Church with a Musical Legacy

The venue, Christ Episcopal Church, is celebrated for its magnificent pipe organ, which is an instrument of remarkable quality crafted by Kegg Pipe Organ Builders in 2008. The church has a history of hosting an array of national and international artists, contributing to Eureka's cultural scene.

Sándor Balatoni's Esteemed Musical Journey

Sándor Balatoni is not only an organist but has also earned acclaim as a conductor and composer. His education includes completing doctoral studies at the University of Pécs and the Eastman School of Music. Balatoni has achieved first prize at the Zsámbék National Organ Competition and has been awarded special prizes in other national competitions. His performance history spans across Europe and the U.S., highlighting appearances at notable festivals and concerts. Currently, Balatoni holds positions as an assistant professor and deputy director at the University of Pécs, and he is closely involved with several choirs and orchestras in Hungary. His talent has been recognized with various scholarships and awards, including the prestigious Junior Prima Award.

Philip Ficsor: A Proponent of Modern Compositions

Violinist Philip Ficsor, a champion of contemporary American music, is particularly noted for his interpretation of works by William Bolcom. His education includes advanced degrees from Yale University, The University of Michigan, and a Doctorate in violin performance from Boston University. Ficsor's performances have been celebrated in music festivals throughout Europe and the U.S., and he currently educates as an assistant professor at the Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Collaborative Concert and Faculty Exchange

The upcoming concert is a part of a faculty exchange program, featuring pieces by composers such as Béla Bartók and Jules Massenet. Balatoni and Ficsor's collaboration reflects their commitment to cultural exchange and musical excellence. Attendees are encouraged to donate $20 and will have the opportunity to meet with the artists at a reception following the performance.
