Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra Welcomes Citizens to Celebrated Conductor and Pianist's Debut Performances

Published January 9, 2024

The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra is offering a special opportunity for 100 lucky residents of Seoul to experience the debut performances of their new artistic director, Jaap van Zweden, on January 25 and 26. These performances are highly anticipated as they mark van Zweden's first concerts as the leader of the orchestra and will feature a collaboration with the phenomenal pianist Lim Yun-chan.

Ticket Lottery for Seoul Residents

As part of this inaugural occasion, 50 randomly selected individuals from Seoul will receive a pair of tickets each, enabling them to bring a guest to share in the experience. Both Koreans and foreigners who are over 14 years old and hold a valid resident registration number are eligible to enter the draw. A fair lottery system will be used to pick the winners, with two people chosen from each district in Seoul to spread the opportunity evenly across the city.

Application Process

Interested parties can apply for the ticket lottery without needing to register separately for membership simply by accessing a Korean link provided through the SPO's online platform and social media channels. The window to enter the draw is open for one week, beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday and closing at 6 p.m. on January 18. Winners will be announced at noon on January 22 on the SPO's website.

Concert Highlights

Those who secure tickets to the concerts, happening at the Seoul Arts Center and Lotte Concert Hall, will witness a sold-out show, with tickets snapped up within one minute of release. Attendees will be treated to Lim Yun-chan's interpretation of Beethoven's "Emperor" Piano Concerto No. 5. The second half of the concert will showcase Mahler's "Titan" Symphony No. 1, another classic piece.

The SPO is eagerly looking ahead to a bright future under Jaap van Zweden's leadership over the forthcoming five years.
