Edmonton Artists Shine at Black History Month Concert

Published February 6, 2024

Edmonton's thriving music scene is showcasing some of its brightest stars in an upcoming Black History Month concert this Saturday. The event promises to be a standout part of the TogetherYEG concert series. This series was originally created alongside last year's Juno Awards to bring attention to local talent. The concert features a lineup of acclaimed artists, including Nuela Charles, K-Riz, Mouraine, and Arlo Maverick, who are all set to deliver memorable performances.

Spotlight on K-Riz

Although K-Riz is now operating out of Calgary, he maintains strong ties to his Edmonton roots. He's excited to perform alongside his musical colleagues at the Starlite Room. K-Riz brings a unique blend of R&B and hip hop to the table with his latest album, 'One Way Ticket'. The artist refuses to be boxed into a single genre and proudly fuses smooth vocals with sharp rapping skills, drawing inspiration from the musical greats of the '80s and '90s. K-Riz isn't just focused on his music career; he's keen on mentoring others and exploring his passion for filmmaking.

Nuela Charles' Increasing Popularity

Singer-songwriter Nuela Charles is another artist who is effectively making her mark through the concert series. With her music featured in various television shows, she attributes her success to composing songs that resonate deeply with scenes in films and series. Winning awards in multiple music categories, Charles defies being categorized into one genre, appealing to a wide audience. She has noticed the positive effects of song placements in shows like 'Jane the Virgin' and 'Tiny Pretty Things', recognizing the novel ways fans interact with her music.
