High School Jazz Bands Gear Up for Starbucks 27th Annual Hot Java Cool Jazz

Published February 10, 2024

Jazz enthusiasts in Seattle are invited to experience an evening of exceptional music performed by some of the area's most talented young musicians. The awaited Starbucks 27th Annual Hot Java Cool Jazz will take place at The Paramount Theatre, showcasing high school jazz bands in an event presented by Seattle Theatre Group (STG).

A Night of Musical Talents

The event is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday, March 29. Since the first show in 1995, Hot Java Cool Jazz has become a notable annual concert, contributing over $1,000,000 to the music programs of participating schools.

Direct Support for Music Education

All of the concert's ticket sales will go towards supporting the music programs of the five local high schools involved, which include Edmonds-Woodway High School, Mountlake Terrace High School, Garfield High School, Roosevelt High School, and Mount Si High School. The funds are crucial for managing costs related to competition entries, equipment purchases, and travel expenses for the participating jazz bands.

Tickets, priced at $25 aside from fees, can be purchased at STG's official website or in person at the Paramount Theatre box office located in the heart of Seattle. The event is open to all ages and seating is general admission.

Community Impact and Ticket Sales

Starbucks Senior Manager June Ashley shares that the event not only showcases the musical prowess of the student bands but also enables Starbucks to give back to the community. By reinvesting ticket revenue into the schools' music programs, the company supports the future of the jazz genre.

With each band receiving an equal share of the total ticket sales, the program has been effective in supporting local music education. It should be noted that the previous year's concert raised over $73,000, emphasizing the success and popularity of Hot Java Cool Jazz. This success often results in sold-out shows, so prompt ticket purchase is recommended for those wishing to attend. Additional information about the show and the participating bands is available for those interested in the event.
