Published February 19, 2024

Jarvis Cocker, the frontman of the iconic British band Pulp, expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards his fans and friends for their encouragement following the death of his mother, Christine. Christine Cocker passed away on January 2nd, the evening after Pulp's memorable Hogmanay concert in Edinburgh.

A Tribute to Jarvis's Mother

In a touching Instagram post, Jarvis Cocker posted a photo showing his mother's face as a stage backdrop, paired with a heartwarming video where he's seen getting the audience to cheer in her honor. He shared with his followers, 'It’s 49 days since my mum passed away... I travelled back down south on new year’s day & she left this Earth at 10:15pm that evening.'

Pulp's Milestone Hogmanay Performance

The end-of-the-year show was particularly significant as it was Pulp's first performance in Scotland's capital in two decades. The band delivered two sets, with one performance before and one after the traditional midnight fireworks. The second set concluded with an extraordinary rendition of their hit 'Common People', featuring two bagpipers.

At the time of the concert, the band shared thoughts on their comeback performances, 'When Pulp decided to play some concerts again, we could’ve never imagined that it would be like this.'

Future Plans for Pulp

Pulp's drummer, Nick Banks previously hinted to NME at possible future band activities in 2024, saying, 'It’s the last scheduled thing we’ve got. Hopefully we’ll have more to announce for next year...' The band is also set to appear in various festivals this coming year, including notable events such as the Øya Festival and Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
