Published March 23, 2024

LOGAN – On March 22nd, a passionate crowd of country music fans gathered at the Ellen Eccles Theatre to witness a special musical event. Recording artists Kristina Train and Miko Marks took the stage to educate and entertain the audience with stories and songs from the foundational eras of country music, dating back to the 1950s.

'Trailblazing Women of Country' Tribute

The concert paid homage to the 'Trailblazing Women of Country,' focusing on the musical heritage of icons such as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton. The evening opened with Train and Marks joining voices for Loretta Lynn's lively song 'You're Looking at Country.'

As the night unfolded, Train serenaded the crowd with melodious classics, performing 'Crazy,' 'Leaving on Your Mind,' and 'She's Got You' by Cline, Lynn's 'You Ain't Woman Enough (to Take My Man)' and 'Fist City,' and a selection from Parton's discography including 'Here I Am,' 'Just Because I'm a Woman,' and 'Here You Come Again.'

Marks took to the stage next, offering a honky-tonk twist with her powerful performances. Her renditions of 'Walking After Midnight,' 'I Fall to Pieces,' and 'Blue Moon of Kentucky' perfectly captured the essence of Patsy Cline's signature sound. Marks also delivered flawless interpretations of Lynn's 'Coal Miners Daughter' and 'Don't Come Home a-Drinkin' (with Loving on Your Mind),' before concluding her set with Parton's 'Joylene,' 'Coat of Many Colors,' and the timeless ballad 'I Will Always Love You.'

All-Female Band Shines

The evening was complemented by a five-piece, all-female band of accomplished studio musicians. The ensemble featured Megan Palmer on piano and fiddle, Morgan Blaney on both upright and bass guitar, Heather Thomas on drums, Thayer Sarrano handling acoustic guitar and keyboards, and Anne McCue showcasing her talent on electric and steel guitars.

Train and Marks wrapped up the celebration with an energetic encore, covering Parton's renowned hit 'Nine to Five,' leaving the audience invigorated by the performance.
