Chloe Flower's 'Popsical' Style Bridges Emotions in Her Holiday Album

Published December 14, 2023

Chloe Flower, an American pianist, has introduced the world to what she calls 'popsical' - a unique fusion of pop and classical music, designed to capture the myriad emotions of the holiday season. This inventive genre name may conjure images of frozen treats, but for Flower, it symbolizes her innovative musical approach particularly suited for contemplative times.

The Essence of 'Popsical'

With her holiday record, 'Chloe Hearts Christmas,' Flower seeks to offer a soundtrack that is relatable to everyone. "I wanted to create something for everyone because I know the holidays aren’t always happy," she explains. Her intention is clear in the album's dynamic range, which oscillates between joy, sadness, melancholy, and hope.

A Lifelong Musical Journey

38-year-old Flower has been inseparable from the piano since she was just two years old. "I don’t think there’s anything else I could do for 14 hours a day and not want to die," she shares, emphasizing her profound connection to her instrument.

Her passion and skill have not gone unnoticed, as she joined the ranks of Sony Music Masterworks, releasing her first solo album in 2021. Even before her album release, Flower gained significant attention when she performed with rapper Cardi B at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Liberace's iconic piano.

Diverse Influences and Cultural Exchange

The expansive 16-track 'Chloe Hearts Christmas' album showcases a variety of influences, featuring arrangements like Tchaikovsky’s "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," Joni Mitchell’s "River," and BTS singer V’s "Christmas Tree."

As a Pennsylvania native with Korean heritage, Flower appreciates the cultural impact made by South Korea’s BTS. She admires their role in bringing Asian culture to American audiences, acknowledging the joyous crossover as fans embrace Korean music and language.
