University Union Organizes Y2K-Themed Showcase for Student Musicians

Published February 20, 2024

The University Union is set to host an engaging Y2K-themed event that will serve as a platform for student musicians to shine. Promising a throwback to the turn of the millennium, the event is scheduled for March 1 at 7:30 p.m. and will feature performances from student bands and a solo artist at the Schine Underground.

Meet the Performers

The lineup boasts a variety of student artists including the alternative indie band Mimicking Mars, consisting of Syracuse University's Darius Baharlo, James Dawson, Josh Leviseur, and Jeremy Lanuti. This group has already made a name for themselves performing at local spots such as The Lost Horizon and Al's Wine and Whiskey Lounge.

Equally noteworthy is After Hours, a fresh and enthusiastic band formed in October 2023. Comprised of SU freshmen Bella Terano, Max Kanefsky, Darius Baharlo, Kiera Walsh, and Goldie Singer, their foray into the local music scene includes competing at Mudpit’s Battle of the Bands and gigs at Funk ‘n Waffles.

Completing the lineup is the solo DJ Nick Jessop, a senior from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, ready to showcase his skills and set the mood for the night.

Creating Opportunities for Students

The University Union is excited about bringing together the student community with cultural events like this Y2K-themed gathering. By spotlighting young artists, the organization hopes to curate more opportunities that nurture the talents of student performers and provide them with the exposure and experience they need to thrive.
