UCM Music Students Set to Present Annual Christmas Concert

Published December 12, 2023

Tomorrow, on the evening of December 13, the University College Isle of Man (UCM) music students are preparing to enchant audiences with their annual Christmas Concert at St Matthew's Church, situated along Douglas Quay. The event promises to be a showcase of the students' hard work and dedication over the term.

A Fusion of Eras in Music

This festive concert has been given the theme 'Now & Then,' which reflects the focus of the students' second-year project. Throughout this term, the students have engaged in a heartwarming endeavor, visiting and interacting with the residents of Elder Grange Nursing Home. These visits have been instrumental in shaping the concert's repertoire.

Inspired by Lives and Stories

Inspired by the lives and memories of the nursing home residents, the students have crafted original songs. These compositions echo the residents' life stories, adding a personal and nostalgic touch to the concert. Additionally, some students have taken it upon themselves to reinvent beloved songs of the residents, infused with new styles and arrangements. There's also a place for the students' personal favorites, which have been reimagined to share with the audience.

Supporting Student Welfare

The concert is not just a display of musical talent but also an initiative to aid the Student Hardship Fund. The doors are set to open at 7pm, welcoming all who wish to experience the joyous performances. Attendees are encouraged to make donations, contributing to a fund designed to support students facing financial difficulties.
