DePauwCappella Delights Audience with Diverse Winter Concert

Published December 11, 2023

The well-known student ensemble DePauwCappella hosted an enchanting winter concert at Meharry Hall, uniting students, their families, and alumni to enjoy and celebrate the musical achievements accumulated over the academic term.

Comprising talented individuals from every class year, DePauwCappella represents a diverse mix of freshmen to seniors, all connected through a shared passion for music. The group meticulously prepared an eclectic mix of tunes for the evening, featuring popular contemporary hits and a sprinkle of classical holiday treasures, with original arrangements by students like Zoë Kales ‘25 and popular pieces by the a cappella group Pentatonix.

The concert started off on a high note with the iconic track Mr. Brightside by The Killers, which showcased a standout solo performance by Madalyn Sailors ‘24. Each piece throughout the night allowed different students to shine, either in solitary solos or in harmonious duets.

Adding a unique flair to the evening, Kazuki Aoyama ‘26 performed an impressive beatbox interlude. The concert then seamlessly merged into the festive part of the night, transitioning from contemporary pop to the warmth of holiday classics. The performers donned festive Christmas sweaters, stepping away from their formal concert black, further setting the mood for the seasonal celebration.

A variety of beloved holiday songs resonated through the hall, from God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen to the soulful Hallelujah. The grand finale featured Carol of the Bells, a timeless piece that welcomed DePauwCappella alumni to join the stage, culminating the event with a touch of nostalgia and unity.

In a display of holiday cheer and artistic camaraderie, Meharry Hall was abuzz with excitement, festivity, and the spirit of togetherness. For those who missed the live performance or wish to relive the experience, a recording is available for viewing.
