Chicago's March Concert Lineup Presents Eclectic Musical Acts

Published March 5, 2024

As winter’s grip eases, Chicago bursts to life with a spectrum of concerts to charm music enthusiasts in March. This year, the spotlight turns away from the mainstream to illuminate a collection of shows set in cozier venues, promising unique experiences that span an array of genres and styles.

Bruce Hornsby and yMusic

Pianist Bruce Hornsby, known for his tunes that once dominated the radio waves, is joining forces with yMusic, a chamber ensemble hailing from Brooklyn. Beyond his '80s and '90s hits, Hornsby has played with the Grateful Dead and innovated alongside Bon Iver. This collaboration is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 10 at the Pick-Staiger Concert Hall in Evanston, promising fresh renditions of classic tracks.

Sons of the Silent Age

Channel the spirit of David Bowie with the Sons of the Silent Age. With Chris Connelly at the helm, boasting a vocal prowess close to Bowie himself, this Chicago group has cultivated a strong following. The ensemble performs at 8 p.m. March 16 at Space, serving as a mesmerizing time capsule of Bowie's legacy.

Danny Brown

The Detroit-based artist Danny Brown brings his unique blend of psychedelic storytelling to Metro on 9 p.m. March 20. Brown's work, which is noted for its avoidance of rap cliches, infuses elements of technicolour, alt-rock, and a touch of Detroit techno. The concert follows his ambitious sixth album, "Quaranta," released in late 2023.

The Children’s Hour Reunion

Indie enthusiasts can revisit nostalgia as The Children’s Hour duo of Andy Bar and Josephine Foster reunite on 9 p.m. March 26 at the Hideout. Their sound caught the attention of John Peel and Billy Corgan years ago, and with a new album, "Going Home," fans can anticipate a memorable evening.

Rachel Drew's Record Release

A mainstay in Chicago's music scene, Rachel Drew celebrates her latest album, "Old Sky New," with a record release party at 8 p.m. March 28 at FitzGerald’s. Drew's performance offers a deep dive into her refined blend of country, soul, and folk sounds.
