Master Chorale Celebrates Festive Spirit with 31st Noel Christmas Concert

Published December 11, 2023

The holiday season was welcomed with a musical flourish as the Master Chorale hosted its Thirty-First Noel Christmas Concert at the Dorothy Corsberg Theatre. The ensemble's long-standing tradition continued with an evening filled with festive songs and melodies on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Enthralling audiences with their harmonies, the chorale's performance was a highlight of the local holiday events.

Special Guest Performances

A highlight of the concert was the array of guest performances that added variety to the night's program. The Sterling High School Jazz Choir brought their youthful energy to the stage with an engaging rendition of "Mele Kalikimaka." They were joined by the talents of the Sterling String Trio, who painstakingly performed "Concerto Grosso In G Minor, Op. 6, No. 8." The musicianship continued with a piano quartet that offered a cheerful interpretation of "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," showcasing the skills of local pianists Nita Gillham, Jennifer Linn-Leaf, Mary L. Smith, and Emily Singer Kaufman.

Choral Excellence

The Master Chorale itself did not fall short of expectations, presenting an expansive repertoire that ranged from the rhythmic "Betelehemu" to the serene "Silent Night." Solos by performers such as Jerry Skaggs, Donna Tuell, and Lesa McKenzie provided intimate moments amidst the powerful choral numbers. Under the direction of Don Johnson and with the accompaniment by Mary L. Smith, the chorale's rendition of "Joy to the World" jubilantly closed the evening, leaving the audience infused with the spirit of the season.
