South African Amapiano Awards Set to Take Stage in December

Published December 5, 2023

Following a series of delays, the South African Amapiano Awards (Saapa) are back on the calendar, with festivities scheduled for December 12.

New Date Announced for Amapiano Awards

Initially planned for April, the eagerly anticipated awards show experienced setbacks, prompting a shift to November, and ultimately settling on the December date, revealed during an announcement at The Galleria in Sandton.

Founders Optimistic About Amapiano Awards

Qhubani “Qness” Ndlovu, the awards' founder, has expressed confidence that this date will remain fixed. Ndlovu and his team are prepared to deliver the second annual edition of these awards, recognizing the exponential growth and international acclaim of the amapiano genre.

The DJ and media personality anticipates delivering an elevated entertainment experience, acknowledging amapiano’s ascendancy on the global stage.

The awards ceremony aims to celebrate the genre’s expansion in spite of initial skepticism about its potential to resonate worldwide. Ndlovu highlights the genre's versatility and widespread appeal, evidenced by its adoption in hit songs by international artists.

Challenges Overcome to Ensure Event Success

With legal hurdles regarding the brand ownership now resolved, the event that first launched in October 2021 is set to proceed. This follows a previous legal dispute concerning the original ownership of the Amapiano Awards concept.

Bontle Moloi is slated to host the ceremony, taking over from Robot Boii. Red carpet presenters will include Bontle Smith and Vyno Miller. Performances by artists such as Musa Keys, Toss, MaWhoo, Justin99 & Pcee, and Babalwa M are expected to provide a thrilling showcase of talent.
