Published February 26, 2024

The Santa Monica Public Library is set to host an extraordinary musical event as part of its Soundwaves new music series. Saxophonist, composer, and filmmaker Chris Jonas will grace the stage for a unique performance. The event is scheduled to take place on March 2 at 3:30 p.m. and will be held in the Multipurpose Room of the Main Library located at 601 Santa Monica Blvd.

Chris Jonas: A Musical Journey

A former New Yorker, Chris Jonas spent the 1990s collaborating with some of the most innovative figures in creative music, such as Anthony Braxton, Lawrence 'Butch' Morris, William Parker, and Cecil Taylor. Currently based in New Mexico, Jonas has developed an intriguing new project, 'Music from the Deserts', which features a series of compositions designed for improvising musicians, accompanied by a film.

A Collaborative Performance

Jonas won't be performing alone; he will be accompanied by three distinguished performers from the Bay Area. Cory Wright will join on reeds, Jason Levis will take up the drums, and bassist Lisa Mezzacappa, renowned for curating the Jazz/Pop concert series at the Hammer Museum, will complete the ensemble.
