Brisbane's Rising Star FELONY Set to Perform at Fortitude Valley Music Festival

Published December 20, 2023

Brisbane is gearing up for a spectacular musical showcase as international and local stars prepare to grace the stage at Fortitude Music Hall for a two-day music festival on January 2 and 3. The event promises a mix of indie rock, electronic, and alternative pop performances from globally recognized bands and musicians.

International Lineup Joins Local Talent

The festival's lineup includes the likes of British band Foals, renowned for their indie-rock anthems, and The Avalanches, an Australian electronic dance duo that has captivated audiences worldwide. Joining them will be Sbtrkt, a prolific musician and producer, as well as British singer-songwriter Declan McKenna, known for his introspective lyrics and melodic tunes.

FELONY: Brisbane's Own Musical Prodigy

Amidst the international acts, Brisbane's own 18-year-old Layla Borhani, better known by her stage name FELONY, is set to perform. This marks her largest show to date and symbolizes a significant milestone in her budding music career. With her high school days of covering Declan McKenna's songs behind her, FELONY will now share the billing with one of her musical inspirations, as well as other seasoned artists.

FELONY's journey to the festival stage has been a rapid climb. After adding energy and excitement to venues during a national tour with Selfish Sons, another band from Brisbane, she has polished her skills and is now ready to conquer a larger stage. Working alongside producer Cody McWaters, FELONY has crafted an upcoming EP that's sure to resonate with her fanbase.

Her latest single, Everyone I Like Wants To Kill Themselves, showcases a blend of vulnerable lyrics with energetic pop-rock, reflecting FELONY's diverse musical influences like Wham, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and rock giants such as Paramore and Foo Fighters. As a young artist, FELONY aims to voice the complexities and aspirations of her generation through music that's both relatable and dynamic.

The Brisbane music scene has always been a fertile ground for fresh talent, and FELONY's rise within the community highlights the supportive nature that local artists cherish. The upcoming festival in January is not just a celebration of international talent but also a nod to the emerging voices that are shaping the future of music from Brisbane itself.
