Mick Jagger Shares Bob Dylan Revelation at the Oscars

Published March 4, 2025

Mick Jagger, the renowned frontman of The Rolling Stones, made an unexpected admission about Bob Dylan during his appearance at the 2025 Oscars.

On March 2, Jagger surprised attendees at the ceremony in Los Angeles, receiving enthusiastic applause from Hollywood stars including fellow musician Elton John.

When Jagger took the stage to present the award for Best Original Song, he candidly shared that he was not the producers' first choice for the role. According to Jagger, Bob Dylan was initially invited to present the award due to the nomination of his biopic, A Complete Unknown, which received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Actor for Timothée Chalamet.

However, Bob Dylan chose to decline the invitation. Jagger explained, "As much as I love doing it, I wasn’t the first choice to give this award out. The producers really wanted Bob Dylan to do this." He continued, "Bob didn’t want to do it because he’s had the best songs this year, well obviously, in the movie A Complete Unknown. Bob said, ‘You should find somebody younger.’ I said, ‘OK, I’m younger’ – so here I am."

Ultimately, the award for Best Original Song went to "El Mal," from the Netflix musical drama Emilia Pérez, which also saw Zoe Saldaña win Best Supporting Actress.

The 2025 Oscars featured a competitive landscape, with many notable films in contention. This year was particularly considered a tight race, highlighted by the critical acclaim for films such as Anora, The Brutalist, and the drama Conclave.

Anora emerged as the big winner of the night, taking home five Oscars, including Best Picture. Among the nominees for acting awards were Demi Moore for The Substance and Timothée Chalamet for A Complete Unknown, but neither secured a win. Instead, Mikey Madison took home Best Actress, while Adrien Brody won for Best Actor in his role within The Brutalist.

The Oscars ceremony was hosted by Conan O’Brien, who lightened the mood with playful jokes that included references to recent controversies surrounding Emilia Pérez and other topics, leaving the audience in gasps and laughter.

Overall, Jagger's candid moment about Bob Dylan not attending the Oscars added a unique flavor to the night, underscoring the camaraderie and respect shared among musical legends.
