Neil Young Announces New Live Album Amidst Personal Health Challenges
Music icon Neil Young has shared an update with his fans, delivering a mix of concerning and encouraging news. At 78 years of age, the revered folk-rock artist has been battling arthritis for an extended period, a condition that has affected his ability to play guitar. Despite this, Young has expressed optimism, having found a non-medicated solution that allows him to play without pain. His revelation came through a recent message to his fans.
Overcoming Arthritis: A New Way to Play
Young discussed his newfound playing technique, which he discovered during his last live performance. This concert took place in November 2023 alongside his long-time band Crazy Horse at The Rivoli, a venue in Toronto. The event, which was not only a concert but also a celebration for Canada Goose CEO Dan Reiss, provided Young with a breakthrough moment. He experienced a level of enjoyment and vocal freedom he hadn't felt in decades, comparing it to his earlier years of performance.
Live Album on the Horizon
A cherished event for both Young and the audience, the night was digitally captured and is now set to be released as a double vinyl live album. The recording features many tracks from Young's 1990 'Ragged Glory' album, along with hits like 'Cinnamon Girl' and 'Rockin' in the Free World'. In anticipation, Young shared a preview of 'Cinnamon Girl' from that vibrant performance, teasing the live album which is aptly expected to be named after the 'Ragged Glory' track 'FU##in’ UP'.
Upcoming Tour and Recent Releases
Adding to the excitement, Young has teased fans with the promise of announcing a tour for 2024. Though complete details are yet to be disclosed, two performances are already on the books. Fans can catch Young live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 4 as well as at the Bourbon & Beyond festival in Louisville, Kentucky, happening from May 19 to 22. His musical journey also continues on record, with his most recent solo work 'Before and After' and the latest Crazy Horse collaboration 'World Record' both having seen release within the past year.
