Published February 24, 2024

On Saturday, friends and family gathered to remember Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local DJ from the Kansas City area, who lost her life during the celebrations of the Chiefs' Super Bowl win. The funeral service was a tribute to the woman who was tragically killed on February 14th.

A Celebration Turned Tragic

Lopez-Galvan, 43, was part of the massive crowd that gathered to celebrate the Chiefs' victory. During the festivities, gunfire broke out following a dispute believed to be about one group staring at another. In the chaos, Lopez-Galvan, who was there with her husband and adult son, was fatally shot amidst the crowd of approximately one million people.

A Life and Legacy Honored

Known for her love of music, which she shared by playing at various events like weddings and quinceaƱeras, Lopez-Galvan was also a co-host on 'Taste of Tejano' at KKFI-FM. In addition to her passion for music, she was remembered as someone who enjoyed connecting job seekers with opportunities and readily helped others. Notably, her family has deep ties to the local community, with her father having established the city's first mariachi group.

Her death led to charges against two men and gun charges for two juveniles. In response to these charges, her family expressed gratitude for law enforcement's efforts while mourning their tremendous loss. Taylor Swift, a pop icon and Chiefs fan, and Harrison Butker, a Chiefs player, showed their support with generous donations and gestures to honor Lopez-Galvan's memory.

The community mourns the loss of Lopez-Galvan, who is described as an extrovert dedicated to her faith and family. Her presence as one of the area's few Latina DJs allowed her to share her passion for music with the community she loved so dearly.

Community Impact

Lopez-Galvan's contribution to the local Latino community and her work with the city's youth and at the police department highlight her role in enriching the lives of many. The funeral service underscored the void left by her untimely departure and celebrated the impact she had on the Kansas City community.
