Sabrina Carpenter Delivers Showgirl-Inspired Mashup at the 2025 Grammys

Published February 3, 2025

At the 67th annual Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, Sabrina Carpenter took the stage with a vibrant and theatrical performance.

The talented pop star, aged 25, made a stunning transition from her elegant powder-blue JW Anderson gown worn on the red carpet to dazzling showgirl-inspired costumes by Dolce & Gabbana.

She opened with a custom tuxedo-style bodysuit that sparkled with Swarovski crystals and later switched to a glamorous strapless satin and lace bodysuit. To complete her eye-catching look, Carpenter draped a chiffon shawl embellished with feathers over her shoulders.

Her hair was styled in voluminous Hollywood curls, and she maintained her signature doll-like makeup, enhancing her theatrical presentation.

Memorable Performance

Carpenter's performance included an energetic mashup of her hit songs “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” The lively act captivated the audience, which included her friend, Taylor Swift, who was seen cheering her on.

As a first-time nominee at the Grammys, Carpenter's album “Short n’ Sweet” was nominated in six prestigious categories: record of the year, album of the year, song of the year, best pop solo performance, best pop vocal album, and best new artist.

The pop star's sixth studio album, released in August 2024, topped the charts and saw all 12 tracks reach the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at number one. Despite this success, Carpenter was pleasantly surprised and emotional about being recognized at music's biggest night.

A Dream Come True

Carpenter's heartfelt reaction was visible during the live nomination announcements. She shared a video of herself on her tour bus, bursting into tears of joy as her name was called in various categories. She expressed her feelings on social media, stating, "this is the first year I’ve watched the live stream where I heard my name!" and added that she had always dreamed of this moment.

This was indeed a significant year for Carpenter, as it marked her first recognition by the Grammy Awards despite over a decade in the music industry. She first gained fame in 2014 when she secured her record deal and later starred in a Disney production.

Having released her debut album “Eyes Wide Open” in 2015, she has since produced several EPs and albums. Carpenter noted that her career truly began to flourish once she signed with Island Records in 2021.

Growth and Change

In a conversation with Variety, Carpenter shared that she feels a distinct separation from her earlier work, noting a transformation in her identity as both a person and an artist, particularly following the pandemic.

She regards “Short n’ Sweet” as her second major album, emphasizing her newfound creative control and maturity in the industry. Carpenter proudly stated, “When it comes to having full creative control and being a full-fledged adult, I would consider this a sophomore album,” and there is no question that she has succeeded brilliantly without any signs of a sophomore slump.
