MBC Unveils Nominees for the 2023 Entertainers of the Year Awards

The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has revealed the contenders for the much-awaited 2023 Entertainers of the Year Awards, adding excitement to the Malawian entertainment industry. Among the nominees are renowned figures such as Chimwemwe Idana from Silver Strikers, performance poets Robert Chiwamba and Zeze Kingston, as well as musical talents like Driemo. The stage is set for the public to cast their votes for their favorite entertainers across a spectrum of categories.

Stakeholders and fans can now actively participate in the voting process using the USSD code service *364# available on both Airtel and TNM networks. A nominal fee of K50 per message will apply for each vote cast. This provides a convenient platform for fans to support their favorite entertainers directly from their mobile phones.

Nomination and Voting Process

Zilani Khonje Phiri, the chairperson of the organizing committee, has stated that all seven categories, which cover music, film, drama, media, social media, poetry, and sports, have their top three nominees ready for public voting. The voting period, which commenced on December 6, will culminate on December 30. During this time, the audience's engagement will determine the most outstanding entertainers who will be honored at a gala event.

The winners will be celebrated at a red carpet Gala on December 30 at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe. MBC has expressed their satisfaction with the nomination stage completion and is excited about the public's eagerness to participate, highlighting the return of an event that had been absent for 18 years.
