Published March 10, 2025

King Charles III has publicly shown his admiration for RAYE, referring to her as "a great ambassador for British music." This commendation came during a unique one-off radio show where the King shared a curated playlist of his all-time favorite songs.

On March 10, as part of a collaboration with Apple Music, the playlist titled 'The King’s Music Room' featured music from various Commonwealth countries. During the show, the King explained how each selected song contributed to the soundtrack of his life.

Among the artists listed in the playlist was RAYE, who King Charles highlighted as a leading representative of British musical talent. He expressed his delight at meeting her during a visit to Battersea Power Station, where he learned about the ongoing support the King's Trust offers to young people.

"Anyone who witnessed RAYE's performance at the Grammy Awards will acknowledge that she represents British music exceptionally well," he stated.

Additionally, the King reflected on RAYE's Ghanaian heritage, reminiscing about his memories connected to Ghana, including a humorous incident involving a bow and arrow given to him by then-Ghanaian Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah.

In his curated playlist, King Charles also included iconic songs like Diana Ross' 'Upside Down', describing it as impossible not to dance to. He reminisced about Kylie Minogue’s performance of 'The Loco-Motion' at St. James’ Palace in 2012, linking it to the lively atmosphere of celebratory events.

Recently, the King shared insights into how music balances joy and nostalgia in his life. "Throughout my life, music has held tremendous importance. It evokes happy memories, comforts during sadness, and infuses our celebrations with joy," he explained.

RAYE recently captivated audiences with her performance at the Academy Awards alongside Doja Cat and BLACKPINK’s Lisa, celebrating the legacy of James Bond themes. She candidly shared her nerves about covering 'Skyfall', acknowledging Adele's unmatched talent.
