Australian Guitar Prodigy Taj Farrant Takes Anti-Bullying Message on Tour to Marin

Published February 29, 2024

At just 14 years old, Australian guitar sensation Taj Farrant is not only showcasing his remarkable talent but also spreading a powerful anti-bullying message. Farrant, a prodigy who plays with a depth and skill reminiscent of blues legends, turned to music following a transformative rock concert experience at the age of seven. Taj's style is often compared to Stevie Ray Vaughan due to his passion and soulful play – complete with dreadlocks and a trademark wide-brimmed hat.

Turning Inspiration into Aspiration

After witnessing the electrifying performance of AC/DC's Angus Young, Taj knew he was destined for a life in music. This epiphany was swiftly supported by his grandparents, who bought him his first guitar. By nine, he was already captivating audiences on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' and sharing stages with icons like Rob Thomas and Carlos Santana.

A Bullying Battleground

Despite these amazing achievements, Taj's journey wasn't without adversity. Back home in Long Jetty, New South Wales, Taj faced bullying at school. Kids ridiculed him for his individuality, his appearance, and his bourgeoning online presence.

This mistreatment led Taj's family to homeschool him and focus on cultivating his musical career, especially in the United States where they spend a significant amount of time. They aim to provide a semblance of normalcy for Taj and his sister Jazel, who also performs, in spite of their unconventional lifestyle.

A Tour with a Cause

The Farrant family has dedicated their U.S. tour to raising awareness around bullying, with prior events held at schools. While the performances and songwriting are Taj's main concern now, the family still champions the anti-bullying cause.

As they travel the country, Taj is drawing musical inspiration from the places they visit, leading to creations like 'Crossroads' and 'Bad Trip' – the latter being a recount of a challenging experience on tour.

Finding a Home on the Road

Taj's burgeoning career has his family seeking a more permanent base in the U.S. They currently live on a tour bus, their mobile residence, as they search for a place to call home.

Now a seasoned performer, Taj is embracing his fame and the realization that he might one day reach the status of his idols. He and his family are working hard, playing varied venues, and connecting with fans. With a growing reputation, Taj Farrant may well become a household name in the music world.

Upcoming Local Performances

Taj is set to debut in the Bay Area with his band, bringing both his music and his anti-bullying message to local fans. Interested audiences can catch his performances in Novato and San Francisco in early March.
