Tate Modern Hosts Major Yoko Ono Retrospective

Published February 8, 2024

The impending exhibition titled 'Yoko Ono: Music Of The Mind', described as the UK's largest tribute to Yoko Ono's career, is set to launch next week at Tate Modern. Following Ono's journey from her avant-garde beginnings in the 1950s to her contemporary works, the exhibition is a deep dive into her multidisciplinary and influential artistry.

Yoko Ono, the Tokyo-born artist, musician, and peace activist, has curated over 200 pieces for this showcase in collaboration with Tate Modern. Audiences can expect to traverse through her experiences in New York's and Tokyo's avant-garde art scenes and encounter a fresh rendition of a 2004 work.

The retrospective will also delicately weave the memory of her late husband, Beatles legend John Lennon, into Ono's expansive narrative. Lennon's untimely death in 1980 adds a poignant touch to the display which is scheduled to run through till September 1st.

Quiz Your Yoko Ono Knowledge

In celebration of the exhibition, a quiz has been crafted to allow fans and newcomers to test their knowledge of the famed musician. Questions range from identifying Ono's preferred Beatles' tune to her earliest memory, and which living individual she holds in highest regard.

As a precursor to the grand opening, let's delve into the quiz and see how well you know Yoko Ono. The quiz includes playful inquiries about her interactions with The Beatles, such as what she suggested replacing bacon butties with and which Beatle did she claim to know before meeting the group.

Additional quiz questions touch upon Yoko's childhood accomplishments, like her fancy dress contest win, and the challenge to separate her actual guidance from whimsical misattributions. An intriguing bit of trivia also includes recognizing the only Beatles song on which she performed solo.

The quiz not only serves as a fun prelude to the exhibit but also shines a light on Ono's unique presence in the art and music world, her individual philosophy, and her legacy of peace advocacy.
