Published December 18, 2023

The legendary band Lynyrd Skynyrd is geared up to create new memories in Nashville, a city already rich with the group's treasured moments. They're slated to bring in 2024 with a bang at New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash airing on CBS. Rickey Medlocke, the band's longstanding guitarist, reminisces about their prior Nashville shows, particularly at the now-closed Starwood Amphitheater and the famous Ryman Auditorium.

Rickey Medlocke's Nashville Nostalgia

"I used to love playing that venue," said Medlocke, reflecting on past performances at the Starwood Amphitheater. "That’s some of my best memories of when we would come to Nashville. I’ve had some great experiences doing Nashville and this is probably gonna be another one.” Lynyrd Skynyrd is no stranger to the Nashville New Year's Eve scene, having played the Broadway event nearly ten years prior.

Reunion and Tribute

Medlocke looks forward to reconnecting with other artists scheduled to perform, such as country star Blake Shelton, an acquaintance of the band, and Lainey Wilson, whom they met at the 2023 CMT Music Awards. The latter event also included a tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd following the passing of Gary Rossington, the last original founding member.

Surprises and Fresh Starts

"There is going to be some surprises on stage. It’s gonna be really cool. We’re excited about it. There are going to be great surprises, let’s put it that way. It’ll be a heck of a way to ring in the new year," Medlocke hints at what awaits fans during their performance. He further elaborates on the significance of New Year's Eve, viewing it as an opportunity for rejuvenation and positive change heading into the next year.

This celebration with Lynyrd Skynyrd is set to be an electrifying start to the new year not just for the band but for all their fans, fondly referred to as the 'Skynyrd Nation.'

The much-awaited New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash is scheduled to air on December 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET on both CBS and Paramount+.
