Nikki Glaser Paid Less Than Previous Male Host for Golden Globes

Published January 6, 2025

Nikki Glaser expressed contentment with her pay from the Golden Globes, despite it being lower than that of a previous male host.

Nikki Glaser's Golden Globes Experience

On January 6, during an episode of SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, Glaser, 40, acknowledged that hosts of the Golden Globes do receive payment, saying, “I got paid pretty — I’m good with that.”

She added, “There was a past host who said how much he got paid in his monologue and I got less than that, but that’s OK. I’ll get more next year.” Though she did not disclose the exact amount, it is widely believed she was referring to Jerrod Carmichael, who mentioned earning $500,000 during his hosting of the 2023 Golden Globes.

Jerrod Carmichael's Remarks

Carmichael made headlines with his candid comments addressing the lack of diversity within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, including their absence of Black members until after significant events like George Floyd's death. He humorously stated, “I was very excited. Like very, very excited,” reflecting on the opportunity and challenges surrounding the awards ceremony.

Carmichael's hosting marked a historic moment, being the first Black host in 79 years, and he openly discussed the controversies surrounding the Golden Globes, including the show's cancellation in 2022 due to diversity issues.

Nikki Glaser's Historic Role

In contrast, Glaser made history as the first woman to host the Golden Globes solo. Following the event on January 5, she shared on The Howard Stern Show that she received positive feedback shortly after the ceremony.

Glaser stated, “This first year, when you’re just trying to prove yourself, I honestly would’ve done it for free. It’s an insane platform to be on. It’s not about the money for me.” Her monologue also received acclaim from viewers and critics alike.

Memorable Commentary

Glaser's monologue featured witty commentary, saying, “Tonight, we celebrate the best of film and hold space for television,” and adding humor with references to popular films. She also made a funny remark about potential future criminals in the audience, saying, “I predict five years from now when you’re watching old clips of this on YouTube, you’ll see someone in one of the crowd shots and you’ll be like, ‘Oh, my God, that was before they caught that guy!’”

Overall, while Nikki Glaser noted her paycheck was less than that of her predecessor, she emphasized her satisfaction with her performance and her hopeful outlook for future opportunities.
