Dave Matthews Withdraws from LA Benefit Concert Due to Family Illness

Published January 30, 2025

Dave Matthews will not be performing at the highly anticipated FireAid benefit concert in Los Angeles. Just hours before the performance, it was announced that he had to withdraw due to a "critical illness in the family." This news was shared in a formal statement confirming his absence from the event.

The Crash Into Me singer was scheduled to take the stage and perform a duet with fellow musician John Mayer. The lineup for the concert also included performances from major artists like Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, and Sir Rod Stewart. The goal of FireAid is to raise funds for victims of the recent wildfires that devastated significant areas of Los Angeles earlier this month.

Proceeds from the concert will be directed toward rebuilding the necessary infrastructure and providing support to families who have been displaced by the fires.

Details about the Concert

The statement about Dave Matthews' withdrawal read: "Due to a critical illness in the family, Dave Matthews is unfortunately unable to perform at the FireAid and MusiCares benefits this week." Fans and fellow artists expressed their concern and support for Matthews during this difficult time. John Mayer took to Instagram to share his love and said, "Sending all my love to Dave, who will be there in spirit with me."

Despite Matthews' absence, Mayer is expected to carry on with his scheduled performance slot. It remains uncertain if another artist will step in for the duet or if Mayer will continue solo. Previously, when the duet was announced, both musicians highlighted the importance of helping those affected by the wildfires.

Event Lineup and Venue Information

The FireAid concert will be held across two venues: the Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum, without any formal headliners, allowing a variety of artists to showcase their talent for a worthy cause.

In addition to Rod Stewart, the concert will feature many acclaimed musicians, including Earth, Wind & Fire, Joni Mitchell, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There are also newer acts like Gracie Abrams, Tate McRae, and Jelly Roll, alongside nostalgic performances by artists like Gwen Stefani, Green Day, and Pink.

Katy Perry is another artist participating in the event. She previously committed to donating the profits from her latest album, 143, to aid the victims of the fires.
