Abracadabra! Join the Magic at the Millennium Magic Festival
Magicians from the renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood will be showcasing their enchanting talents at the annual Millennium Magic festival. This exciting event will take place over the weekend, from January 24 to January 26, at Theatre West in Los Angeles. Each day will feature performances by four different magicians, offering a wide range of acts including illusions, comedy magic, card tricks, mind reading, and much more.
George Tovar, a member of the Magic Castle and the festival’s founder, expressed enthusiasm about the various performances. He stated, “Each day is a totally different show, so it’s a wide variety and good for everyone from kids and up.” Tovar, who is also a professional magician and part of the Theatre West company, started this festival back in 2000 to bring together the magic community and provide a space for the public to enjoy amazing performances.
This festival is especially special since the participating magicians often perform at different venues, and to see so many talented performers from the Magic Castle, one typically needs to be a member or invited. Tovar’s goal was to create an event where the public could witness these talented magicians in one location. Additionally, the show serves as a fundraiser for Theatre West, which has been a staple in the Los Angeles arts scene since 1962, boasting a list of distinguished alumni that includes actors like Beau Bridges, Richard Dreyfuss, Sally Field, and Martin Landau.
Performances to Look Forward To
Over the course of the festival, audiences will enjoy a variety of performances. On Friday, Charlie Mount will bring laughter with his comedy magic. Saturday features the talents of Chris Hart, who is known for his role as Thing, the disembodied hand in the Addams Family movies. Tovar mentioned that Hart plays on this fame in his act, incorporating illusions that involve his world-famous hand.
Sunday will showcase performers like illusionist Alexander the Great, who will entertain audiences with classic tricks, including making people float and performing the famed cutting-in-half illusion. “It’s absolutely going to be top-notch magic,” said Tovar.
