Matt Rife Offers Support to Nikki Glaser Before the 2025 Golden Globes

Published January 6, 2025

Comedian Matt Rife recently shared encouraging words for Nikki Glaser ahead of her hosting duties at the 2025 Golden Globes, which took place on January 5.

Speaking exclusively, Rife mentioned, “She’s finally getting the recognition that she deserves. I think she’s gonna crush. I texted her last night just saying, ‘good luck.’” Rife expressed his excitement about potentially running into Glaser before the awards show began. If that didn't happen, he planned to catch up with her afterwards.

When discussing Glaser's nerves about hosting, Rife noted that she seemed “fine.” He added, “She’s performed at way wilder shows than the Golden Globes.” He expressed a laid-back attitude, saying that since the nature of award shows can be unpredictable, there isn’t much pressure. “These shows usually don’t go well,” he stated. “So, it’s like, what’s the pressure? Just go up there and have fun.”

Rife was careful to clarify that he never offered Glaser any advice for her performance, explaining, “We’re different comedians. She knows what she’s doing. She’s been a beast in comedy for over 10 years.”

He further hinted that there would be no limits to Glaser’s comedic approach in her monologue, which he believes contributes to her strength as a comedian. “She’s not scared of anybody or anything,” he emphasized. “Every comedian’s been at rock bottom of having no career anyway. What’s she gonna do? Not work again? She’s selling out theaters around the world. She’s gonna be just fine.”

Rife’s forecast about Glaser proved to be accurate. During her 10-minute monologue that opened the Golden Globes, she confidently took jab at celebrities including Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Timothée Chalamet, Ben Affleck, and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

As she welcomed the audience, Glaser remarked, “Tonight, we celebrate the best of film and hold space for television.” She added a playful line about movies nominated that night, joking, “Yes, Wicked, Queer, Nightbitch: These are not just words Ben Affleck yells after he orgasms. These are some of the incredible movies nominated tonight.”

When it came to roasting Chalamet, Glaser complimented the actor’s “gorgeous eyelashes on your upper lip,” referencing his mustache, which drew laughs from the audience, including his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.

Later in her set, Glaser highlighted Gomez’s double nominations for Only Murders in the Building and Emilia Pérez, making a humorous reference to Gomez's recent engagement to Blanco. “Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish,” she quipped. “Man, lucky guy!”
