Nine Inch Nails to Perform in St. Paul After Twelve Years
Iconic rock band Nine Inch Nails is set to take the stage in St. Paul for the first time in twelve years. They will perform at the Xcel Energy Center on August 17, 2023.
Tickets for the concert will be available starting at noon on January 29 through Ticketmaster.
Trent Reznor founded Nine Inch Nails in 1988, and the band quickly rose to prominence in the '90s. They gained fame with the release of their 1994 album, The Downward Spiral, which earned a Grammy nomination. Popular singles from this album include "March of the Pigs" and "Closer." Nine Inch Nails also became known for their intense live performances, including a notable appearance at the inaugural Lollapalooza festival in 1991, held at St. Paul’s Harriet Island Regional Park.
Over the years, Reznor has led different lineups of Nine Inch Nails, often taking significant breaks between album releases. The band has performed in the Twin Cities multiple times, including shows at the Target Center in 1995, 2000, and 2008, as well as at the Xcel Energy Center in 2005 and 2013. Their last performance in the area was in support of their eighth studio album, Hesitation Marks.
After a hiatus, Nine Inch Nails returned to touring in 2017 and 2022, but these tours did not include dates in the Twin Cities.
In addition to his work with Nine Inch Nails, Reznor has achieved significant success in film scoring, particularly after winning an Oscar in 2010 for his work on the score for David Fincher's film The Social Network, which he created with Atticus Ross. The duo has collaborated on several other films, including The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl, Mank, and The Killer. Atticus Ross officially joined Nine Inch Nails as a member in 2016, and they are currently working on the score for Tron: Ares.
Trent Reznor married singer Mariqueen Maandig in 2009, and they have a family of five children. Recently, in a podcast interview with producer Rick Rubin, Reznor hinted that he might be taking a break from Nine Inch Nails for the foreseeable future. He expressed his desire to be present for his children, stating, "I don’t want to miss their lives to go do a thing that I’m grateful to be able to do, but I’ve done it a lot, you know? I don’t really want to do that right now." This comment has made fans excited yet curious about the future of Nine Inch Nails after this upcoming performance.
