Chicago's Emo Band Routine Fuss Unveils Energetic EP 'Live, Laugh, Fuss'

Published January 23, 2024

The Chicago-based emo band, Routine Fuss, is making waves with the release of their new EP titled Live, Laugh, Fuss in December. This energetic collection features four tracks, each clocking in at under two and a half minutes, delivering a swift punch of high-octane music designed to leave listeners craving more.

Routine Fuss's Rapid-Fire EP

Avery Black, the band's lead singer and guitarist, embraces the concept of brevity with this release. "I love the idea of leaving you wanting a little bit more," he states, indicating the EP's intent to encapsulate the sheer fun of making music with friends. Originally a solo pandemic project, Avery Black took the opportunity to work on his own music, soon longing for the collaborative spirit of a full band. Eventually, Jordan Affeldt on bass and Colin Cubr on drums joined forces with him, transforming Routine Fuss into a tight trio.

Influences and Live Celebration

The band finds kinship with acts like Into It. Over It., Manchester Orchestra, and Weatherbox, considered pioneering influences of fourth-wave emo. Furthermore, Routine Fuss draws inspiration from math rock and carries forward the early 2000s sounds reminiscent of Jack White and Rage Against the Machine. Celebrating their new EP, the band performed a release show at Gman Tavern on January 26, joined by fellow local bands Gosh Diggity, Lettering, and Background Character. They shared their work with fans and contributed to the lively Chicago music scene.
