Kentucky Band Releases World's First Music Single as a Slice of Pizza

Published February 29, 2024

Nostalgia for physical music formats is very much alive, with vinyl sales booming and CDs experiencing a resurgence. However, a Kentucky band has taken this nostalgia to a unique level, blending the world of music with culinary art.

A Slice of Musical Novelty

Belushi Speed Ball, a Louisville thrash metal band known for its energetic riffs and satirical lyrics, has introduced what might be the most intriguing form of a musical single yet: a slice of pizza. The single, aptly named 'My Favorite Color is Pizza,' doesn't come tucked inside a pizza box, but rather it is a resin-preserved pizza slice equipped with a minuscule speaker and button for playing the song. Fans can choose between Detroit and New York styles when they try to get a taste of this musical delicacy.

Reinventing the Wheel – Or the Record

This isn't the first time Belushi Speed Ball has experimented with unconventional mediums for their music. They've issued albums on various retro gaming cartridges, hidden tracks in vintage toys and snacks, and even distributed recordings on outdated formats like VHS and 8-tracks. Known for mixing nostalgia with their merchandise, the band's offerings range from action figures to tiny skateboards.

The decision to release a single as a slice of pizza comes after the band was labeled as 'the frozen pizza of pizza thrash,' a comment they took in stride and fully embraced. By integrating their love for pizza with their music, they not only carved out a niche in the thrash metal scene but also set a new and amusing record in the music industry.
