OKM Celebrates 40 Years with Special Kids Festival, Scholarships, and Internships

Published February 7, 2024

The Oklahoma Mozart (OKM) festival marks a significant milestone, its 40th anniversary, with a vibrant start at the "Especially For Kids Festival 2024" on May 31, 2024. This year, the festival is not just a celebration of music but a platform for nurturing young talents through enriching educational experiences.

Especially For Kids Festival Events

The festival lineup includes captivating events for the younger audience. Mary Lynn Mihm and Rose Hammerschmidt highlighted some of these attractions on COMMUNITY CONNECTION, such as the Muscogee Hoop Dancers performing at Sunfest on May 31 at 7pm, an enchanting Winnie the Pooh Tea at St Luke's Episcopal Church on June 1 from 2-4pm, a lively Boogie Bingo with Bartlesville Radio on June 6 at 5pm at Ambler Hall, and an Art Immersion experience featuring painting and music on the same day.

Scholarship Opportunities for Youth

Encouraging education, Mary Lynn Mihm invited families to take advantage of the scholarships offered by OKM. With a tradition of supporting local talent, OKM Music provides three $1,000 merit-based scholarships annually for students engaging in music studies.

The Mihm Scholarship Fund supports a high school senior from Bartlesville or Dewey, or a homeschooled student within the areas, who aspire to major or minor in music at university. The deadline for applications is set for Friday, April 5, 2024.

The John Mallet Scholarship Fund caters to young musicians aged 13-18 seeking to improve their music education outside school walls. Applicants must reside within a 100-mile radius of Bartlesville, and the same application deadline applies.

For younger aspirants aged 4-12, the Thomasane Chapple Memorial Scholarship Fund endeavors to foster musical education. Eligible candidates must also live within the 100-mile vicinity of Bartlesville, with an identical deadline for submissions.

Gain Experience through Internships

OKM also provides an incredible internship opportunity from May 28 to June 11, 2024. These positions offer interns immersive experiences in various aspects of producing a professional festival. From hands-on roles in marketing and public relations to stage production and event planning, interns will have the chance to interact with world-renowned artists and play a pivotal role in children's programming. Additionally, they learn about arts administration, ticket sales, and merchandising. It's a perfect chance for those studying performing arts or interested in the entertainment industry to apply their knowledge and sharpen their skills.
