Elton John Loses Sight After Severe Infection
Elton John has experienced a significant loss of vision in one of his eyes due to a serious infection. The iconic musician spoke about his condition during the opening night of his musical adaptation of "The Devil Wears Prada" in London.
During the event, John shared with the audience, "I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight." He expressed his appreciation for the performance despite his vision issues, stating, "It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it and, boy, it sounded good tonight."
Health Challenges
The 77-year-old musician had previously discussed his vision loss in an interview with "Good Morning America." He revealed that he had lost sight in his right eye due to an infection, which had been ongoing for four months. He mentioned, "I have lost my eyesight," adding that his left eye is also affected, though not as severely.
In the interview, John explained his struggles with daily activities. "There’s hope and encouragement that it’ll be OK, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know," he said, emphasizing how difficult it is for him to read lyrics or watch anything.
Infection Details
In September, John took to social media to inform his fans about his condition. He explained that he was dealing with a severe eye infection, which had left him with only limited vision in one eye. "I am healing, but it's an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye," he wrote. During this time, he spent several months recuperating at home, remaining positive about his recovery.
Despite these challenges, Elton John has continued to work creatively. He wrote the score for "The Devil Wears Prada" and is promoting his upcoming documentary, "Elton John: Never Too Late," which is set to premiere on Disney+ on December 13.
