Westbury Mall to Host 'Distanced Together' Virtual Music Exhibit

Published February 28, 2024

An innovative virtual music exhibit titled 'Distanced Together' is set to make its appearance at Samanea New York mall in Westbury. This exhibit is a unique installation that allows visitors to engage with music in a novel way while reflecting on the shared experience of the COVID-19 pandemic. Occupying a considerable 6,000-square-foot area on the mall's second floor, the exhibit combines technology and artistry to craft a deeply immersive experience.

Immersive Musical Journey

The 'Distanced Together' exhibit comes to life through 60 individual speakers which are strategically arranged in a large circle. This setup emulates a virtual orchestra, surrounding visitors with a symphony of sounds. The aim is not just to entertain but also to provide a space for healing and contemplation, stemming from the emotional challenges brought on by the pandemic.

Concept and Creation

Composer Murray Hidary is the brain behind this potent musical concoction. The concept was conceived as a means to help people navigate through and heal from the stresses of pandemic life. 'Distanced Together' harnesses the power of the arts, specifically music, to offer solace and evoke emotional release.

Samanea New York's Proud Offering

The mall, aiming to be a hub for entertainment and lifestyle, embraces 'Distanced Together' as a part of its interactive experiences. Dominic Coluccio, the director of Real Estate at Samanea New York, expressed pride in introducing such a unique experience to Long Island, hoping it will provide visitors with a comforting and reflective space.

Glance at the Premiere and Engagement

The exhibit first opened its doors to the public with a live performance featuring 60 string musicians at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in January 2023. In the ongoing exhibit at Westbury, visitors will see an orchestra projected onto a screen, and the composition will be heard through the surrounding speakers, each representing an individual musician's part.

Experience Details and Ticket Information

Tickets to 'Distanced Together' are set at $25 for adults, with a reduced price of $15 for children aged 12 and under. Good news for parents, entry is free for children aged 3 and under. Moreover, the ticket does not only grant entry to the exhibit but also includes pre and post-experience guided meditations and MindTravel music to further enrich the visitors' experience.

As the exhibit gears up for a six-month residency starting March 2, the agreement for this unique musical rendezvous was facilitated by Matthew Kucker, Jordan Baruch, and Herbert Agin of Colliers, who represented the landlord in the transaction.
