Local Bands Shine at American Legion Auxiliary’s Showcase Supporting Veterans

Published December 6, 2023

For musicians, the road to success is often a challenging one, filled with dedication and hard work that transcends a traditional career path. Their passion drives them to master their craft, even if it means juggling day jobs to sustain their artistic endeavors. The American Legion Auxiliary recognizes these struggles and has stepped in to bolster local talent with a celebration of music and community support.

A Day of Music and Art

The event, ‘How Original: An All Original Music & Art Showcase,’ invites the community to experience a diverse lineup of nine local bands, each bringing their own unique sound and original songs. The showcase promises an exciting mix of genres, from solo acoustic guitar melodies to hard rock vibes and everything in between. Attendees are in for a full day of entertainment, starting at 2 p.m. and rocking until 10 p.m.

More Than Just a Party

However, the event is more than just a party; it’s a vital lifeline for supporting both local artists and veterans programs. The American Legion Auxiliary has organized this showcase not only as a platform for musicians to perform but also as a fundraiser for the many initiatives they run for veterans. At a tax deductible fee of just $50, guests not only get to indulge in live music but also in an art exhibit and a sumptuous full course meal.

Commitment to Diversity and Fun

Event organizer Lisa Rutta, also a musician and sound production manager, has thoughtfully curated the day to ensure a balance of genres and equal representation of male and female talents. Her excitement is palpable as she talks about the day being both a thrilling experiment and a showcase of the breadth of local talent.

An Array of Talents Under One Roof

The lineup includes a host of impressive artists, like the finger-picking guitar virtuoso Kyle Kovalik and the young yet classic rock-inspired Katherine Lavin Band. The bluesy Chuck Brewer Band, the vibrant all-female group Salty, and the San Jose-based blues and soul act Grace and the Grit are just a few among the stellar acts scheduled. Hard rock enthusiasts can look forward to Rosewood, while Jon Griffin & the Lightfighters deliver solid rock & roll, and The Transducers add a musical theater twist. The Scalps, a local punk trio, will close the show, ensuring the showcase ends on a high note.

Art and Support

In addition to the music, event curator and Legion Auxiliary organizer Sharon Runde has put together an art selection that complements the sounds of the day. With the event aimed at nurturing the local art scene as much as supporting veterans, it represents a dual effort in community building and appreciation of the arts.

A Festive Spirit Beyond Music

The spirit of giving and celebration doesn’t stop with the showcase. The article points out several festive events happening around the area, including Christmas in the Adobes, a community holiday party at the Sunset Center, and Make Merry at the Cherry, all bringing the joy of the season to the community.
