Published November 9, 2024

K-pop boy group Seventeen has been awarded a certificate of appreciation by the city of Los Angeles for their significant contributions to music and youth empowerment, as confirmed by their agency, Pledis Entertainment.

The honor was presented to Joshua Hong, a member of the 13-member group and a native of Los Angeles, during a meeting of the LA City Council on November 8. Joshua was invited by Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky to accept this recognition on behalf of the group.

Joshua, who grew up in LA, shared his personal connection to the city, stating, "There are traces of my childhood all over LA." He expressed gratitude for the city's participation in the group's project titled "Seventeen the City Los Angeles," which began just recently and aims to brighten downtown LA with Seventeen-themed decorations and displays.

He remarked, "To see LA City Hall, Hollywood, and Korea Town all taking part in 'Seventeen the City LA' along with our fans, known as Carats, to celebrate the last stop of our U.S. tour is an amazing honor and unforgettable experience for me."

Joshua also highlighted the parallels between Seventeen's spirit and the diversity of Los Angeles, commenting, "LA stands tall as a capital of culture and creativity, driven by the energy of people from diverse backgrounds. Seventeen embodies this as well, with each of us bringing our own unique personalities together to create something special."

During the ceremony, Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky praised Seventeen for their role as UNESCO's first-ever Goodwill Ambassador for Youth, stating, "Seventeen has not only achieved remarkable records on stage but also uses their influence to make a positive impact in people's lives. They represent the community spirit we are proud to celebrate in Los Angeles every day."

The "Seventeen the City Los Angeles" project will continue through the upcoming weekend, coinciding with Seventeen's two sold-out shows at BMO Stadium in LA, marking the conclusion of their American tour.
