Cascade Symphony Orchestra Sets the Stage for Children’s Concert with Musical Tales

Published January 29, 2024

Get ready for a musical journey as the Cascade Symphony Orchestra (CSO) gears up to entertain and inspire children and adults alike with its enchanting annual Children’s Concert. This not-to-be-missed event is scheduled to take center stage at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, in the welcoming space of the Edmonds Center for the Arts, located at 410 4th Ave. N., Edmonds. It promises a delightful afternoon specifically geared towards young audiences, ages 5 to 12, but equally enjoyable for all ages.

This year’s magical theme is 'Mother Goose,' with a captivating program designed to spark young imaginations. The concert kicks off with the talents of the Cascade Percussion Ensemble, expertly led by Ian Alvarez. They are primed to deliver a striking musical experience with an array of exciting pieces.

Intriguing Narration Meets Timeless Music

The heart of the Children’s Concert lies in the performance of Maurice Ravel's 'Mother Goose Suite.' Composed in 1908, the suite paints an auditory picture of the tales and rhymes from the legendary Mother Goose. It was originally crafted as a duet for two children, who were the offspring of Ravel’s friends. This rendition by the CSO, conducted by Music Director Michael Miropolsky, enhances the storytelling with narration from Dave Dolacky, a familiar voice from Seattle’s radio scene.

The concert also shines a spotlight on young talent. Brilliant violist Anya Anand and accomplished double bassist William Green, winners of the orchestra's Rising Star Competition for the 2023-24 season, are preparing to take the audience by storm with their exquisite performances. Anand, at just 15, has already honed her skills in prestigious orchestras and enjoys exploring the carnatic violin. Meanwhile, Green started young at the tender age of 5 and has grown to become a principal bass for the Junior Symphony, showcasing his musical prowess on stage.

Nurturing the Next Generation of Musicians

The CSO doesn’t just perform; it fosters the future of music. With its Rising Star program helmed by dedicated orchestra member Holly Sullivan, it champions the musical growth of young artists, with a focus on nurturing school-based music education. This concert isn’t only about entertainment; it’s a platform that encourages the blooming of young talent.

Adults can enjoy the concert for $15, while a special price of $5 welcomes the younger enthusiasts, 12 and under. It’s an investment in a musical afternoon that will be both educational and thoroughly enjoyable.
