Lady Gaga Names John Lennon as Her Dream Collaborator
Lady Gaga has shared that her ideal collaborator would be the legendary John Lennon, who passed away long ago. This remark came during a fan-led press conference held to celebrate the launch of her new album ‘Mayhem’.
When asked by a fan about her dream collaborator, living or deceased, Gaga promptly said, “I think it would have been John Lennon. I think he had such a beautiful heart. One of my favorite aspects of music history is when you remember an artist not just for their songs but for their character and compassion.”
Lady Gaga also showcased a peace sign tattoo on her wrist. She explained, “This peace sign is placed right outside 72nd street by the Dakota, where he was tragically taken from this world. The peace sign was there daily, and Yoko Ono used to place flowers outside. I got this tattoo because of that. I never forgot what he stood for, and it’s what I stand for too.”
In 2011, Gaga compared herself to the ‘Imagine’ songwriter in a previous NME cover story. She stated her struggle with satisfaction in her own music creations, revealing, “I am perpetually unhappy with what I create.” She added, despite calling ‘Edge Of Glory’ a pop masterpiece, she often recalls elements in her songs she wishes she had altered after they are finished.
Gaga mentioned Lennon’s candidness about his own discomfort with certain songs in a 1980 interview with Playboy. She said that while some of these songs might be fan favorites, he struggled with how they turned out.
In recognition of her work and efforts for peace, Gaga was awarded the Lennonono Grant For Peace by Yoko Ono in 2012. Additionally, she performed a rendition of ‘Imagine’ at the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2015.
In the same year, there were reports of her collaborating with Lennon’s former Beatles bandmate, Sir Paul McCartney. The pair was working together on a song for the animated film High in the Clouds, which was inspired by McCartney’s 2005 children’s book.
The collaboration was confirmed when Gaga posted a photo on Instagram of herself, McCartney, and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready in the studio. Gaga fondly recounted how she first connected with McCartney, stating, “Always a good time with my buddy. I’ll never forget when he called me last year to work, and I hung up thinking it was a prank!”
Lady Gaga's eagerly awaited seventh album, ‘Mayhem’, was released on March 7. The album follows her previous works, including 2020’s ‘Chromatica’ and the ‘Harlequin’ soundtrack released last year. NME gave ‘Mayhem’ a four-star review, noting that it showcases the pop star's ability to create expansive tracks without compromising her artistic vision.
Exciting news for Gaga’s fans in Mexico came recently, as she announced her return to the country for a concert – her first performance there in 13 years, set for April 26 at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City. Fans can expect a setlist filled with hits from the new album.
Alongside this concert announcement, Gaga has also stirred speculation about a featured artist in her song ‘How Bad Do U Want Me?’ on her recent album, which fans believe may include Taylor Swift.
