Bruno Mars Jokes About Gambling Debt While Celebrating Streaming Success

Published January 30, 2025

Bruno Mars, known for his incredible talent as part of the songwriting trio the Smeezingtons, rose to fame with hits like B.O.B’s “Nothin’ On You” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire.” After achieving major success as a solo artist with his debut album, Doo Wops & Hooligans, in 2010, he has since garnered 15 Grammy Awards and sold over 130 million records globally. Recently, rumors surfaced claiming that the “Uptown Funk” star had amassed a hefty $50 million gambling debt with MGM Resorts. Though these allegations were denied by MGM, Mars found a humorous way to address the claims during a recent celebration.

“I’ll Be Out of Debt In No Time”

On January 27, Bruno Mars made waves by becoming the first artist in Spotify history to amass 150 million monthly listeners. Currently, he continues to dominate the platform, thanks to collaborations such as “Die With a Smile” with Lady Gaga and “APT” with Blackpink’s Rosé. On January 28, he took to Instagram to celebrate his achievement, posting, “KEEP STREAMING! I’ll be out of debt in no time,” poking fun at the ongoing rumors of financial distress.

This isn't the first instance where Mars has joked about his so-called gambling debts. During a performance last year, he cheekily remarked, “Ever since those articles came out about me owing the casino money, you stopped picking up my calls. It’s me, baby — I got money.”

Bruno Mars' Residency and MGM's Response

In March 2024, various reports, including one from NewsNation, mentioned that Mars allegedly owed up to $50 million to MGM. An insider claimed, "He makes $90 million a year off of the deal he did with the casino, but then he has to pay back his debt after taxes.” Despite these claims, MGM has staunchly denied any rumors regarding Mars being in debt.

The casino responding noted, “MGM and Bruno’s partnership is longstanding and rooted in mutual respect. Any speculation otherwise is completely false; he has no debt with MGM.” Earlier in 2024, Mars even announced an extension of his residency at MGM Resorts for a ninth year, with dates set for performances in May and June.

This lighthearted engagement with the rumors highlights Mars' positive outlook and ability to maintain humor amidst speculation.
