Weekly Gathering at L'Arche London Celebrates Inclusivity with Music

Published January 9, 2024

Every Monday morning, a heartwarming gathering takes place at L'Arche London, where individuals of various abilities come together to relish in the power of music. The Monday Morning Music Club is a hub where people sing, dance, and connect, breaking barriers and fostering a sense of community.

A Melodic Tradition

For over two decades, the Monday Morning Music Club has been a beacon of joy and inclusion, co-founded by Laurel Martin and Jim McGeough. It's more than just a music session; it's a celebration of diversity and talent. Whether it's singing along to cherished tunes, or simply clapping and dancing, the club offers a stage for everyone. Regular participants like Sandy Teixeira with 'Puff The Magic Dragon', Leeann Stone with 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star', Peter Ogrodnick with 'Three Bells', and Janet Blair's rendition of 'Climb Every Mountain' highlight the inclusive nature of the gathering.

The Harmony of Community

At the core of L'Arche's mission is the nurturing of community life and the provision of support to people with developmental disabilities. They create homes and programs like the Monday Morning Music Club to celebrate the uniqueness of each individual. The London chapter, situated on Colonel Talbot Road, is a testament to the harmonious environment that L'Arche fosters, symbolized by the weekly music sessions where everyone finds their rhythm. Accompanied by a band of musicians, the club resonates with a symphony of unity and friendship.
