Quincy Jones, legendary music producer, has passed away at the age of 91. His publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that Quincy died on Sunday, November 3, at his home in Bel Air, Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.
In a heartfelt statement, his family shared, ‘Tonight, with a heavy heart but broken, we share the news of the death of our father and brother Quincy Jones. Although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life he lived and we know that there will never be another like him.’
Jones was a prominent figure in pop culture throughout the 20th century. He became famous for producing Michael Jackson's groundbreaking albums, including Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad in the 1980s, which contributed to making Jackson the greatest pop star of all time. Quincy also worked with musical icons such as Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, and Donna Summer, writing, producing, and performing exceptional music. He was a talented multi-instrumentalist, collaborating with notable musicians, including Count Basie.
Quincy Jones Responsible for Iconic Soundtracks
Throughout his career, Jones was responsible for composing and performing 37 of the most iconic movie and television soundtracks. These include memorable works for In the Heat of the Night, The Italian Job, Roots, and The Color Purple.
In addition to his film and television contributions, Jones established a production company in 1990 that found great success with the comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and other programs. He continued to innovate into his 80s, launching Qwest TV in 2017, which is an on-demand music television service.
Jones held a remarkable record, being the third artist with the highest number of Grammy nominations, totaling 80. He has won 28 Grammy Awards, ranking third behind Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
